hide and sheep: 2011

Monday

Howl

Boxing Day,
Boxed-in-on-the-beach-day.

An owl is completely random.
Accept it. Move on.

And enjoy your day!

Sunday

Merry Kitschmas!

This sums up the holiday for me.
I loved mine. I hope you did too!

Tuesday

...and a partridge in a pear tree

It's not the 12th day of Christmas and so far my true love has given me nothing.
But because 12 Days of Christmas is voted (by me) the weirdest Christmas carol ever...here's a drawing for it. Listen to the song, stir the Christmas cake mixture and eat a plum. It's nearly Christmas!

Thursday

This is the shout out I've meant to make my whole life.

If you're left handed, you get it.
Gel pens smudge everywhere.
You have to act as though you're playing Twister to open up a can with a can opener.
And most scissors won't ever work for you. EVER.

This is a shout out for all of us, who've had this frustration, and here's a good old middle (left) finger to all of those impossible tasks.

Love from leftys everywhere. And Jessie.
(Ps, flip this 90 degrees CW if you want to know how it should look. That or just go to www.facebook.com/hideandsheep)

Let's get festive.

Nine days left of advent calenders and then it's the big day!

What are you doing to get into the Christmas spirit?

I decided to get my Christmas cards out of the way.

Next up's a Christmas playlist with a 50s feel.

Ps. Something's wrong with this computer. It won't load images the right way up. So cock your head 90 degrees ACW and you're sorted!

GET INVOLVED.

B Fam art exhibition

Art lover?
Broke art lover?

Cape Town artists are giving one back to the community by selling their art at a discounted rate (nothing over R700!!!) at tonight's B Familiar Garage Art Exhibition!

This is where it'll be:

tHedoGsbollOcksaTTheyaRd, 6 on Roodehek Street, Gardens, Cape Town

And this is a taste of what you'll be seeing:

I'm exhibiting four works.
Go and find them!

Kings

The game we always play with the cards we never admire.
Plus. It's nearly Christmas....so it's also like the "We Three Kings" with their plus one.
Either way.
Play the game.

Monday

Royale Eatery art exhibition

I'm displaying some of my art at Royale from 5 December-5 Feb.
This is the exhibition that my wonderful friend, Janelle, put up for me. Thanks Janelle!

Decent excuse to pop in for a milkshake, I'd say.

Sunday

Maneki Neko (cat of good fortune)

I have my own second hand cat of good fortune.
It gives just-me good luck.
It's like a private wishing well.
Or first star in the sky.

Anyway.
I'm giving it wish-overload, that way, hopefully, it'll come true!

(Last time I wish-overloaded I was 5  and it was for a pony...and I got one the very next year. I rely on its success!)

Friday

I spy

This reminds me of a  hula girl meets that myth programme we were watching on Discovery about some monster/ giant sloth in Brazil somewhere with an eye in the middle of its face.

Happy days!

with a little help from my friends

I have exceptional taste in friends.

Look at what horrible things I make them do.....

And they look good!

May I introduce the guy origami vests. They're pretty pimping and come in brown and eggshell. Great Christmas presents at just R150!

I'd also like to shout out loud to Cynthia, to Graham, to Matt, to everyone from the H&S Launch and most recently, to Dan, for bearing with me and being such stunning shmodels.

Order on Facebook:
www.facebook.com/hideandsheep

Monday

I hate photos

I hate photos, but a girl's gotta do...ya ya.

This is the lovely origami vest!

(Guys to follow shortly.)

Sunday

Correspondence

So on Saturday Hide and Sheep officially began its ability to be posted!

Now. Wherever you are, you can get a shirt- isn't that nice? Add R30 onto the R150 for a shirt and I will get it to you within "three working days", although you can never be sure on postal timing- it might take four!

More correspondence...I'm home in Plett and far from my exhibition at Royale, which I'm supposed to be putting up in a week! Luckily I have amazing people in my life who are helping me out. So Janelle, my wonderful photographer friend, is hanging the exhibition for me.
This is the last piece to the photos, something that links Hide and Sheep and Jessie Scheepers' art. This is in Plett, and has to travel to Cape Town with more good friends to end up at Royale Eatery.

It's my mum's old printer's tray, with Hide and Sheep's logo cut out and stuck in.

I love it (and don't want to lend it to Royale's walls when it looks so good on mine at home!).

Goodnight!

Thursday

The what is mightier than the what?

The Protection of Information Bill.
Yes.  It’s what everyone’s talking about.
Fuming about.
Freaking out about.

It’s a huge deal.

But I’m not one to tell the Facebook and blog world what I think about it.

Instead... I’ve twisted this idiom- give it a think.

And here’s some bad advice- the Bill is being taken to the National Council of Provinces and so is not in place yet, so if you know of some corrupt bad guys, now’s the time to rat them out, with the happy pleasure of not being sent to jail for 25 years.

Snoop nicely, Dogs.

Ps. For those of you who are just very nice people but don’t have a clue what I’m talking about, here’s all you need to know about:
1. Stopping the new Bill: http://www.r2k.org.za/
2. The idiom I’ve spoofed: “the pen is mightier than the sword”.

Tuesday

Cloud Cover

Clouds are cool.
Fluffy..but not.
Soft..but not.
Bed-like...but not.

I like it how people think of clouds as things that they're not.

Here's another example of how people can get clouds wrong.

Wednesday

Bird's eye

Happy holidays!

I hope you play lots of Sudoku, Scrabble and other intellectual mind games.

This isn't intellectual. But it is a stab at mind-gamesness.

Enjoy it (and them).

Bird-thday

Happy bird-thday Cynthia (for Monday!)

Friday

Framing.

Frames- you know, those things your mum puts your art in when you're little and then hangs in your house? Well them, they aren't cheap.
I've been smashing piggy banks everywhere to buy material, and to pay for printing, and production, and postage and all things shirty.
So really, frames are not exactly in my student budget.
THANK GOODNESS FOR BIRTHDAYS.

I pretty much exchanged and redeemed every present from my loving family until I had scraped enough money together for these lovely frames.

Here they are.

Don't forget to go to the Royale Eatery between 4 December- 4 Feb to check them out!

Wednesday

Rock the paper, scissors!

My dad got me six new pens yesterday. They're amazing pens, but not very good for my exam on Monday...anyway.
So obviously I've had to test them out. And out. And out.
I've been touching up and tweaking here and there and everywhere.

My latest tweak?

The idea of Rock. Paper. Scissors.

I love that game. I love the concept. I made an ok design for it. Now I have an awesome design for it.

I'm happy. Are you?

I'm doing the before and after thing.
It's just so much more dramatic...

ORIGINAL IDEA

MORE ORIGINAL THAN ORIGINAL IDEA
High five!

Tuesday

We aren't cool. Elle and One Dog Chicken are.

We want to send a big "WE LOVE YOU!" out to ELLE and One Dog Chicken.

Both of them did lovely features about Hide and Sheep today. ELLE's thinks I'm a guy, but really...what is gender when a feature is concerned?! So I suppose they took the humorous angle. Thanks ELLE! (http://www.elle.co.za/hide-sheep/)

One Dog Chicken understood us a bit better, and didn't confuse my sex, which always helps. (http://onedogchicken.com/2011/11/hide-and-sheep/)

They have a Doodle tab- and artists do doodles of their interpretation of the name "One Dog Chicken".
So I did one to thank them (ELLE didn't have a Doodle tab, so they're just riding on One Dog Chicken's doodle.)

Thanks guys!

Sunday

Birds of a Feather.

Dear my friends

I've said goodbye to you all.
And I already miss you. And I will miss you for the 78 days until I come to Durban. I don't know how else to say you're absolutely amazing, so here it is- the things we never say to each other:
You guys rock.

Have a terrific holiday. And nail these last exams.

How many birds can you count in this bird?

Saturday

Totempole

Totempole.
Our next style shirt is THE VEST!
Girls love them, guys love them. And most of all, summer loves them.

So I'm thinking simple drawings, like this one maybe?
Or maybe the origami.

What do you think?

Thursday

Out with the old and in with the new?

This is the old.
This is the new.

(Please don't kill me for the incredibly weak rhyming)....

Which one's for you?

Vote on Facebook for your favourite one!

And on a old-vs-new note, it's interesting that old is in. We went on a day adventure the other day- and there's this really cool photo from it. Now we've been having a bit of a duel-off to see who can make it look the most authentic vintage out there. What do you think?

The original.

The green.
 The pink.

The sepia.
 The contrasts.

Tuesday

Movember

The coolest prostate and testicular cancer awareness on the block.
DO IT TODAY!

Monday

This is the link to the Mahala competition.

Link love for you all this wonderful wet Monday morning.

Stand a chance to win a free Hide and Sheep shirt?

If you want to buy one, on the other hand, it's only 150 smakeroos.
And totally worth it.

If you don't want to check out how cool we are, and have stumbled upon this by accident, at least take some time for this wonderful song from Fantastic Mr Fox.

Saturday

Mahala giveaway photos

We're so super serious!
Mahala magazine (www.mahala.co.za) is doing a Hide and Sheep shirt giveaway over the next two weeks! So we had to prepare for that...with photos (amongst other things)!

Jono took them, so thanks boet.
Cynthia styled us, so thanks boet.
Graham looked silly with me, so thanks boet.

Friday

Halloweekend

Who needs Hello Kitty when you have Hallo Teddy? Yes. I just did that.

So for all you teddy zombie junkies out there, Happy Halloweekend!

Saturday

Hide and Sheep Launch

Things on this side have been c-razy!
(As usual.)

And I come bearing good news.
Great news in fact....
Hide and Sheep has had its official launch! (A launch that was ama-zing!)

We cranked out them cupcakes, we shirted-up and sat enjoying Jack Parow and Niskerone on Jammie Plaza. We ate bright pink, bright green, bright blue and purple cupcakes (with wonderful hand-ground icing sugar which got involved as lemon icing) and 100's and 1000's...from the 1990s.

We had Jules (below) taking stunning pictures (the average ones are from when I was taking them!). Thanks Jules. You rock!
We had everyone pimping their shirts. We had sales, we had interested people. We advertised. We sat outside.
I'd like you to give a big and friendly welcome to Hide and Sheep from the photos below!
And if you like them so much and want to order one, they're R150 and write on Hide and Sheep's page (www.facebook.com/hideandsheep).
